Trump's I-am-not-a-witch moment

Dear Director Comey,
...
While I greatly appreciate you informing me, on three separate occasions, that I am not under investigation, I nevertheless concur with the judgment of the Department of Justice that you are not able to effectively lead the Bureau.
...
Donald J. Trump
Donald, even if Comey were prime evil himself, you can not fire someone who is investigating you. (Even if Democrats did or do not like him.)

Donald, it would have been better not to talk about the FBI investigating you. (It only puts more focus on these investigations.)

Donald, you can not talk to Comey about ongoing investigations, especially investigations about yourself. (And there is no evidence that Comey informed you.)

Donald, do not write about your FBI investigations when your official reason for firing Comey was that he was not fair to Clinton. (And a many months old incident is not a good excuse for firing someone in a panic.)

Donald, you cannot write that refraining from investigating you would be a reason not to fire Comey. (The rule of law makes America a free country.)

  2. That was the voice of Nixon.

Another big tell, I had not seen before writing this post, was that according to White House officials Trump said that Comey wanted to be a martyr. If there is no dirt for the FBI to uncover, Comey could not become a martyr.

It could still be limited to people in his campaign and to money laundering by selling overpriced real estate to Russian kleptocrats.

  3. Can someone please confiscate Donald's twitter account?

It is most unseemly for a president to continually tweet his unformed thoughts

  4. Someone? I had always imagined the leader of a country, let alone the largest military power, to have some self-control and self-management capabilities.

If I had agreed with 100% of his "policies", as far as defined, I had still not voted for him because of his incompetence. But he is much more incompetent than I had ever imagined. He is less interested in policies and the world than I had thought possible in the worst politician. It is a tragedy.

  5. Yes, his character is really the very opposite in every way of what it takes to be a competent president. He somehow manages to hit that sweet spot of perfect unfittedness for the office.

  6. A good piece at Vox.com:

"In short, what if Trump is exactly as he appears: a hopeless narcissist with the attention span of a fruit fly, unable to maintain consistent beliefs or commitments from moment to moment, acting on base instinct, entirely situationally, to bolster his terrifyingly fragile ego."

"That’s who he is: a disregulated bundle of impulses, being manipulated by a cast of crooks and incompetents, supported by a Republican Party willing to bet the stability of the country against upper-income tax cuts. We need to stop looking for a more complicated story."

  7. Seems to be doing an OK job,so far, though. Can't wait until he shuts down all the 'climate change' crap.

  8. That someone who even rejects the existence of the greenhouse effect and starts a fake scientific journal sticks to Trump until the end makes sense. He did do a lot to pollute the air and water and to make (especially poor) Americans less healthy.
